Fall Caramel Apple Snacks

Celebrate autumn by making treats with the season’s most popular harvest: apples! Caramel apple snacks make a great party favor and this fun recipe will be perfect for family get-togethers or mini-parties with friends and neighbors.

Apples are not only delicious; they’re also great for your health. Apples are a great source of dietary fiber and vitamin C. They are also full of calcium, potassium, iron, and zinc. Apples can help keep your brain young and can help prevent you from developing Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Apples can help your heart stay healthy by helping reduce your cholesterol. They can also boost your immune system and help control your weight. This autumn give your loved ones a tasty, but nutritional treat.

Mindful Recipe for Caramel Apple Snacks:

Ingredients:

  • 6 apples, washed (Granny Smith apples work great)
  • 1 (14 ounce) package individually wrapped caramels (before use, unwrap the caramels)
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • Butter
  • Nuts (walnuts or peanuts) to decorate
  • Craft sticks
  • Wax Paper
  • Scissors
  • Baking Sheet

Directions:

  1. Cut out wax paper squares large enough to wrap around an apple (anywhere from 9 to 12 inches, depending on size of the apple) and butter each square. This is a fun thing for the kids to do to help out in the kitchen.
  2. Remove the stem from each apple and press a craft stick into the top. Write the name of the child, neighbor or family member that’ll be receiving this treat!
  3. Place caramels and milk in a microwave safe bowl, and microwave 2 minutes, stirring once. Allow to cool briefly. Use this time to set up chopped walnuts or peanuts to decorate the apples (place the nuts on a baking sheet).
  4. Roll each apple quickly, rotating it completely, in caramel sauce until fully coated. Roll a layer of nuts to add to the caramel coat. Place the apple on prepared wax square to set.
  5. It helps to have the apples cool before dipping so have them in the fridge until you are ready to go! Also, let the caramel cool a little before decorating. If you are doing this as a party activity than simply wrap the finished caramel apple in its own wax square and tie it up at the base of its stick to make it a to-go treat.
