Find Your Tribe

building a community

Do you need help achieving your New Year’s resolution? Do you have a dream you’re working to fulfill? If so, having the right support network can help you achieve success. When you hang around people who are striving for the same goals it can help motivate you. Unfortunately, as we get older, making new friends can be more of a challenge, as we aren’t forced to interact with new people like we were in grade school. Fortunately, with the right advice, you can start building a community of your own.

Building a Community

Listed below are five tips for finding or building your own tribe of like-minded individuals.

  • Know what you’re looking for. To find your perfect tribe you must first know what you are looking for. Are you looking for a group of people who are working towards the same goals, such as an amateur photography club? Or are you simply looking for a group that you can share deep, heartfelt dialogues with? Make a list of what sort of group you’re looking for and use this as your guide.
  • Open your mind and your soul. Judgment can be toxic for new friendships. If you want to build an inspiring network with authentic relationships, it’s important to open your mind and soul. Offer encouragement instead of judgment and reach out to people who are different from you—it is all part of building a mindful community.
  • Sign up for classes and courses. Now that you’ve thought about your ideal support network and opened your mind, it’s time to start your search. If you’re looking for a new friend group based on an activity, try signing up for classes at your local community center. You can find classes for practically anything—cooking, dancing, painting, woodworking, and everything in between. Make new friends by striking up a conversation with the people there.
  • Join or start your online group. Are you looking for engaging conversation? With a click of a mouse, you can find passionate discussions about practically anything. Although message boards and comment sections are ripe with trolls and disingenuous people, there are many corners of the Internet where people gather together for mindful discussions. You can join a thoughtful website or engaging group on a social media platform. You can also start your own online community.
  • Join a local club or start your own. Clubs are a great way to find your tribe. Are you having trouble writing your novel? Start a writer’s club—meeting up with a group of writers once a week can keep you focused. Are you trying to stay healthy? Start a healthy living club—you’ll stay motivated if you meet up with an exercise group once a day. If you don’t want to start your own club find online through platforms such as Meetup.
