Brain Boosting Blueberry Smoothie

blueberry smoothie, smoothie recipe, breakfast smoothie, morning smoothie

This is Kathleen’s perfect health brew and it is a great way to wake up your mind, body, and soul to start the day.

Blueberries: Research shows blueberries contain the highest level of antioxidants of all fruits and vegetables which helps prevent cancer and other diseases. A six year study of 16,010 elderly participants found that blueberries and strawberries were linked to delays in cognitive aging by up to 2.5 years. The fiber in blueberries helps lower cholesterol and decreases the risk of heart disease.

Oranges: The National Cancer Institute calls oranges a complete package of anticancer power.

Whey: Whey is an excellent source of high quality protein, which nourishes the brain with rich amino acids and helps decrease inflammation, which impacts all disease.

Honey: Honey helps prevent cancer and heart disease, contains antioxidants which help reduce the risk of some cancers and heart disease. Honey is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal.

We make this for breakfast at least 4 mornings each week. It makes two servings.

Ingredients:

2 cups frozen blueberries

10 frozen strawberries

1 cup high pulp orange juice

2 scoops Whey to Go protein powder (vanilla flavor) (20 grams of protein per scoop)

2 tsp honey (you can add as much as you like)

1 cup water

Directions:

Put these beautiful foods into your blender and get ready for a wondrous way to start your day or a delicious gift during your busy day. If you like it thinner add more water or less if you like to eat it thicker with a spoon. My husband and I like to eat our shake slowly to savor each bite so we keep ours thick so we can eat it with a spoon. Yum!
